Mayor won't run again, saying his goals are met

Pinecrest voters will elect the third mayor in the village’s history in November, after Mayor Gary Matzner announced Wednesday he will not run for a second four-year term.
“I’m not going to seek reelection as mayor,” Matzner said.
Matzner told The Miami Herald he had accomplished his main goals as mayor, particularly overseeing the construction of a village library and community center, which opened this summer. There are no more large projects on the horizon that he might be interested in leading, he said.
“There’s really no land to build more parks,” he said.
Other factors in his decision: wanting to spend more time with his family and on his day job as a shareholder of law firm Akerman Senterfitt.
The qualifying period for candidates to run for office in Pinecrest is open and ends Aug. 15.
