Pinecrest residents soon will be able to tune in to a city-operated radio station for hurricane and traffic updates and news on community events.
The Village Council approved a $37,700 contract on May 18 with Highway Information Systems.
The council vote was unanimous. Vice Mayor Robert Hingston was not present.
The AM station should be up and running in about a month or two, in time for most of hurricane season, said Council Clerk Guido Inguanzo Jr. He said the Federal Communications Commission will provide the radio dial number soon.
The council also voted to buy a one-acre property at 7531 SW 104th St. to add onto Flagler Grove Park.
Mayor Gary Matzner said the price of the property, now owned by the Doris L. Traynham Trust and Gary P. McDonald Trust, will be $1.25 million.
Already planned for the park are basketball courts, soccer fields and a children’s playground.
